It all started Friday the first day of this festival, when tour managers, bands and DJs were having problems with the sound. Also the equipment they asked for was not ok or it was not there at all. After having those problems on Friday you would think the problems would be solved 24 hours later.
On Saturday I received a text message from a friend. It said that the festival was cancelled! I could not believe it, and I started calling all the promoters for some answers. Not one of them answered their phone, and nobody knew what was going on. No one could give me a straight answer. So, I went up and down a couple of times to get some information at the lobby. But nothing! Nada! At 11PM we were supposed to go out for some dinner, and eventually we ended up leaving the hotel after midnight.
Around midnight the organization of the Balance Fest found a solution; they moved the party to a new venue called: Cherry Seven. It was a venue downtown, and also near the beach. How the hell was the organization going to inform all the party people after midnight that the party was not cancelled but moved to another venue. Luckily I was able to post this on Facebook and Twitter. I did not have dinner yet, and I was all alone when I arrived at the venue. I checked the equipment, and told them to bring the equipment everyone asked for. After 3 hours of waiting in the club I was finally able to grab some food just around the corner.
At 3.30AM Dave Seaman and Quiver arrived. They were very surprised about the whole situation. They first checked the club and the equipment. After they discovered that they had equipment issues we all left to have a drink. At 3.45AM we decided to check out another club, which was open after 6AM, and this club does have all the equipment we needed. It was already late when someone finally fixed the right equipment. First Dave Seaman and Quiver played a back-to-back set. After 5 hours of waiting it was time to for me to leave, because I had to catch a flight. I also had to adjust my watch to summertime, which meant less sleep..
I am very sorry for the people who bought tickets and sponsors who invested their money. I hope I can make it up to you very soon with my next tour in Mexico. People can make mistakes but it is a big disaster if the sound and the equipment are not of good quality. How can we give a good show to the people when some of the equipments are missing?
I went to breakfast the next day, which also was a disaster because it was way to crowded. I bumped into the TV crew who wanted to do a special program of the festival. I was able to sit with them and have a quick bite to eat, while talking about the festival. They did not understand the whole thing either. After this I had little time left to pack my bags and check out. It was chaos in the lobby, and I had no driver to bring me to the airport. Nothing was going according to plan, and I ended up jumping into a cab.
I was very close to missing my flight, because Delta airline refused to check me in. They wanted to put me on the next flight. I was freaking out, because I was going to miss my connection from Atlanta to Amsterdam. After a long talk they finally agreed to put me on the flight, and there is where I saw Dave Seaman. His flight was overbooked so they had to put him on this flight. We arrived together in Atlanta, and there we said goodbye and we continued our journey home alone.
I could really use a vacation after all this drama.
